Ain't Nobody Got Time For That

Seriously. Why does it always have to be something? Now that my knees are feeling great and I've developed an exercise routine that I actually don't mind and sometimes even look forward to, it appears I've developed Plantar Fasciitis.

Over the past two weeks, I've noticed that I have pain in my left heel. It kind of felt like a stone bruise, if you've ever had one of those. It was a bit painful, but no big deal. And it never bothered me at all while I was walking so I didn't give it much thought. Over the past few days though, it has developed into something different altogether. It is so painful at night time that I literally have to hobble to bed. Last night was the worst of all.

So I have an appointment with my doctor for Thursday morning at 9am. I've got to get this sorted out. I can't let it derail my exercise. I will also have to stand all day long at school in the coming weeks. I literally DO NOT have time for this. If any of you have suggestions or advice, please, PLEASE let me know.

Plantar Fasciitis, this goes out to you.

  1. there are a lot of remedies...roll your foot on a tennis ball. It will hurt while you're doing it, but it loosens things up. there are some youtube videos also that are helpful. just look up 'plantar faciitis remedy' on youtube!

    1. That's a really good idea. I'm getting ready to do that right now. I've also heard rolling a frozen water bottle under your foot is good too.

  2. Oooooouch! Plantar fascitis is the worst! I also did the tennis ball thing. If it takes awhile to heal can you bike or do water exercises? It helps take the weight off the sore feet!

  3. Oh my god...I had no idea how painful it could be. I've been reading online that walking on a treadmill uphill is actually good for it? We will see. I would gladly bike, but I haven't worn a swimsuit since 1989! :)

  4. Been there, done that! Rolling the tennis ball/frozen water bottle is great. This exercise also worked for me: stand at a wall and put your foot up again the floor boards so that you toes are up, but most of your foot is on the ground. Slowly bend your knee forward. This should stretch your plantar fascia. Another fave was standing on a step with the ball of your foot on the step and the rest of your foot "hanging" off the step. Gently lower your heel. I just found an awesome you tube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9h2PwiFM60).

Also, going barefoot is a thing of the past. When not in regular shoes, I wear my Birks. Always wear shoes with good support.

    1. Thank you so much. I am going to try anything and everything I can. How long until you started feeling better?

    2. Ooh...I don't want to depress you! It took me years...BUT I was horrible about doing the exercises. If you are religious about them, I bet you'll conquer this in a fraction of the time.

    3. That's kind of what I was afraid of. I've also heard that you don't really get cured of it, you just learn to keep it at bay. :( I can tell its better from two days of rest and stretching. I am really anxious to see what my doctor says tomorrow morning. Thanks so much for all your help.
